The problem

Thirty images. One crashed browser.

You know the drill. Your team drags 30 product images into WordPress, the browser hangs for two minutes, then crashes. Half the images uploaded. The other half? Start again.

The WordPress media uploader processes every file simultaneously. Upload 30 images and your server spins up 30 concurrent PHP processes, each generating multiple thumbnail sizes. On a WooCommerce store with six registered image sizes, that’s 180 resize operations fighting for memory at once. The result: timeouts, white screens, frustrated staff.

The solution

One image at a time. Every time.

Bulk Media Uploader processes images one at a time. Each file gets its own AJAX request. The server handles one image, frees the memory, then moves to the next. Your browser stays responsive. Your server stays stable. Every image uploads successfully.

It’s not slower — it’s reliable. And for teams uploading product images daily, reliability is what matters.

Key features

Everything between drop and gallery

Twelve things it does, in the order they happen: before upload, during, and after.

The core

Sequential upload processing

Files processed one by one via individual AJAX requests. Server memory stays flat regardless of batch size. Works on shared hosting, managed WordPress (Kinsta, WP Engine, Cloudways), VPS or dedicated — no special server configuration.

Smart image naming

Select a product before uploading and every image is renamed from the product slug. Add a custom suffix per image — front, side, lifestyle, detail — and the filename updates live. Spaces become SEO-friendly hyphens automatically.

IMG_4521.jpg → oakworld-alfresco-storage-box-1.jpg

Auto-generated alt text

Alt text is generated from the final filename — hyphens to spaces, title-cased. Proper, descriptive, SEO-relevant alt text on every image without typing a word. Editable per image if you need to.

alt= "Oakworld Alfresco Storage Box Front"

Review & reorder before upload

A visual review step between dropping files and uploading. Preview each image with its new filename and alt text. Drag cards to reorder — that order carries through to the product gallery, so your featured image and sequence are set before a single byte is uploaded.

Duplicate detection

Before uploading, every filename is checked against your existing Media Library. Duplicates are flagged with a warning — skip individual files or upload anyway. One efficient database query, no performance impact.

Client-side image resize

Optionally resize in the browser before uploading. A 5000×4000px phone photo doesn't need to hit your server at full resolution if your site uses 2048px max. Set your preferred maximum. Less upload time, bandwidth and server processing — zero server cost.

Client-side WebP conversion

Convert JPG and PNG to WebP before uploading. Typically 25–35% smaller with no visible quality loss. Combined with resize, a 4MB phone photo can become a 400KB WebP. All in-browser.

4 MB JPG → ~400 KB WebP

WooCommerce gallery integration

Search for products by title or SKU. All uploaded images attach directly to the product gallery in one click, with the first image optionally set as featured. A direct "Edit product" link appears on completion so your team can verify immediately.

Auto-upload & attach mode

For experienced staff who don't need the review step: enable "Skip review" and images upload immediately on drop, then auto-attach to the selected product. One setting, remembered between sessions.

Pause, resume & retry

Pause the queue after the current file finishes; resume from where you left off. If any files fail — timeout, server hiccup — click "Retry failed" to reprocess only those files. No starting the batch over.

Activity log

A timestamped log of every action: files added, uploads started, successes with attachment IDs and alt text, failures with error messages, retries. Scroll back to see exactly what happened during a batch.

Works without WooCommerce

The core sequential upload, naming, alt text, resize and WebP features run on any WordPress site. WooCommerce 7.0+ unlocks the product search and gallery attachment.
